The Fighting Irish defeated the Bulldogs 61-58 to win their first championship in 17 years with a buzzer-beating three-pointer from junior guard Arike Ogunbowale. Ogunbowale also scored a buzzer-beater at the end of Notre Dame's game against UConn on Friday. Former NBA star Kobe Bryant attended that game and tweeted to Ogunbowale that she wouldn't finish the job until she won a championship.

The most decorated male athlete in Winter Olympics history is calling it a career. Norwegian biathlete Ole Einar Bjoerndalen has decided to retire at the age of 44. He competed in six Winter Olympic Games dating back to 1994, winning 13 medals (eight gold, four silver, one bronze). He announced his decision in a press conference Tuesday, saying, "I would like to take a few more years, but this is the last season." He noted heart murmurs this past season influenced his decision.

Survivors of a school shooting in Parkland, Florida, returned from spring break Monday to new security measures that some students said made them feel like they were in prison. Marjory Stoneman Douglas students encountered security barriers and bag check lines as they entered campus Monday morning. Inside the school, administrators handed out the students' newest mandatory accessories: a see-through backpack much like the ones required at some stadiums and arenas, and an identification badge they must wear at all times.

local news-Motel guest arrested for burning unwanted ham in trash can, causing explosion-april 3, 2018
An Alabama woman who didn’t want the ham her family gave her set it on fire and threw it in a trash can, causing an explosion at the motel she was living. Beverly Burrough Harrison, 62, was arrested on charges of first degree arson for the February incident that took place at the Bomar Inn in Athens. According to police, Harrison took her dog and left the motel room after the ham began smoking without alerting anyone to the fire. The fire caused a can of butane fuel to explode, blowing out the front wall of the room.

The woman who opened fire at YouTube headquarters in Northern California may have been a disgruntled user of the video-sharing site. Police identified the woman in Tuesday's shooting as San Diego resident Nasim Najafi Aghdam, who was in her late 30s. Authorities don't know of a motive for the shooting, but they are investigating a website that appears to show the same woman accusing YouTube of restricting her videos.

A filmmaker claims the creators of "Stranger Things" took the idea for the hit Netflix show from him, and he's ready to battle it out in court. Charlie Kessler alleges brothers Matt and Ross Duffer took the idea for the sci-fi/supernatural series from his short film "Montauk" and a related feature film script titled "The Montauk Project." Kessler claims he met and discussed his film and script with the Duffer brothers at a premiere party during the Tribeca Film Festival in April 2014, a sci-fi short that told the story of a violent event that took place in the Long Island community. The premise dealt with conspiracy theories, secret government projects and the paranormal. A cop haunted by his past was among the key characters.

Cities across the United States honored King with ceremonies and performances, as well as reflections on what today's civil rights advocates can do to carry forward his legacy 50 years after his death. King's eldest son, Martin III, said that recent movements, including Black Lives Matter, #MeToo and the campaign against gun violence, led by students who survived a school shooting in Parkland, Florida, give him hope. "I think that Dad and Mom would be very proud to see this group exists," he said of the youth activism.
